Have you seen the lesson where we showed you how to use WBS Summary activities to assign resources to whole sections of projects? Then this lesson is also for you. Here’s a slightly different scenario. In this situation we don’t want to assign a resource to an entire section of a project but sort of a sub-section that looks like that.

Now, this sub-section is within a WBS. We’d like to assign a resource just to those four activities. Now, of course I could always individually assign that resource to those individual activities but perhaps there’s a better way. I’ll show you that better way in this lesson. Once again we have the Railcar Maintenance Facility project open. And we’re looking at the Maintenance building and some of the structure work that’s going on in the construction of the Railcar Maintenance Facility.

I want to bring your attention to couple activities here where we’re doing a lot of concrete work. Okay. In order to do this concrete work, we’ll use a concrete pump to help us pump the concrete to the right places on the site. Once again we have a situation where the concrete pump could be used on many of these activities. And of course, I could assign it individually to each activity if I want it.
