What are the types of resources supported in Primavera P6? What is the Resource Dictionary? Those are questions we’re going to strive to answer in this lesson - Primavera P6 Resource Concepts. We’re going to review a few important concepts before we dive in Primavera itself. Let’s get started.

First concept I want you to understand is that Primavera supports three types of resources. They are labor, equipment, and consumable materials. Primavera calls these Labour, Non-Labour, and Material. They’re all very similar but there are some subtle differences in how they’re managed a little bit. A second concept I want to review with you is the concept of Global Resources.

All resources in Primavera by their nature are global. They are set up in one central location called the Resource Dictionary which is essentially our central pool of resources. Those resources are then assigned to projects. Now, because of their global nature any changes to a resource added source will also ripple through to the projects where resources been assigned.

That can work to our advantage if we know that in advance but as new users, if we don’t keep that in mind we may sometimes inadvertently affect other projects.
