Learn how to administer and add Resource Codes to help manage your Resource pool in Primavera P6. See applicable examples of Resource Codes you could use in your own P6 database.
How do we create these Resource Codes? I want to give you a quick introduction to how we can work and actually add these different codes or add values to existing codes. So we’ll go up here to the Enterprise menu, we’ll go down to Resource Codes.
And then now, we’re into the Resource Management- Resource Codes Management Area of Primavera. You may not have access to this- this may be limited to administrators of Primavera in your organization but you can always go and try. So I click this Modified button, I’ll see the different resource codes that are created. So we have Department, Contractor, Location, Classification, and Plant. Okay.
Now, we’re going to add a new one. Let’s call this one Work Center. Now, the field down here Max Length actually indicates the number of characters the code can be so for me, I’m going to limit this to four characters. We’ll go and close that. Now, I thought maybe Work Center could be a great example where we tied us back to our accounting system.
A lot of resources will be tied to a particular cost center or a charge back center. And I thought maybe we can create a code to help us figure that out. So in this case, we go ahead and add some codes. And let’s put in, say, cost center 0013. And this will be Project- let’s call it Work Center for consistency. Okay.
